How to Introduce the Wedding Party — MC's Guide

The bridal party entry is the first big set piece of the reception — and getting it right sets the tone for the entire evening. Here's how to execute it with maximum impact.

Preparation: Get the Details Right

For every member of the bridal party, you need: correct name pronunciation, their relationship to the couple, and one specific, warm, personalised detail. The detail is what separates a memorable introduction from an announcement. "James, the best man" is an announcement. "James, who has been the groom's closest friend since they met at a football tryout in Year 9 and somehow managed to convince him that camping was an acceptable way to spend a weekend" — that's an introduction.

The Order

Standard introduction order: flower girls and page boys first (crowd reaction is immediate and it sets a warm tone), then bridesmaids paired with groomsmen, then the maid of honour and best man (the crowd's energy should be building), then the parents of the couple, then the newlyweds. Adjust based on the couple's preferences.

Coordinate with the DJ

Every entry needs music. Coordinate with the DJ on:

• Which song plays for which group
• Your cue to the DJ to start each track
• When to cross-fade or cut as the next group enters

The Newlyweds' Entry

The couple's entry is the climax. Build the audience's anticipation across every preceding introduction so that when the couple walks through the door, the room is already at maximum energy.
